In China employment-oriented vocational training institutions face the problem that their graduates lack potential for sustainable development in their careers. According to employers, graduates now lack the abilities of self-regulated learning, teamwork and constant improvement.

The GSRD Foundation supports the Suzhou Industrial Park Institute of Vocational Training (SIPIVT) in transforming this pattern by taking the focus off concerns about students’ employment and putting focus on students’ sustainable development. SIPIVT works together with other vocational training schools to train and develop students’ core abilities such as individual learning skills, teamwork skills and critical thinking. By redesigning the curriculum system, reforming teaching approaches, establishing self-learning platforms and spaces, and reconstructing the quality evaluation system, SIPIVT wants to develop a new training scheme suitable for students’ sustainable development.
