The Aflateen program is designed as a journey for young people to reflect on their lives, learn to explore issues and problems in society, and acquire life skills that help them become engaged citizens. They are empowered to enact enterprises and projects with other young people that make a positive change in their communities.

In 2012 the Shanghai Better Education Development Center (Be Better) started implementing the Aflateen program in China. With support from the GSRD Foundation, Be Better is implementing and expanding the program in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Guiyang, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Suzhou, covering a total of 6,000 youth aged 16 to 22, mostly from low-income or migrant families. The program is facilitated in high schools, vocational schools, colleges and universities.

Through participation in the program, students will be able to obtain and demonstrate new financial knowledge, and increase their personal savings, as well as social skills, career planning and entrepreneurship.
